Who are the gypsies, though?

Their true name is Roma but “Gypsy” was the name given to them by Europeans who thought that they arrived from Egypt. It eventually became evident that Roma have actually arrived from India but the name “Gypsy” remained stuck.

Now, centuries later, Roma can be found all over the world but the greatest majority of their population is found in central and eastern Europe.

Gypsies are reputed to be a vagabond or a nomadic race that continually moves from one location to another. Although Gypsies are often portrayed as immoral thieves who are dishonest in their dealings, that is a very unfair portrayal. When it comes to thievery and criminal behavior, the Gypsy race is no different from the Caucasian, the Negroid or any other race. The majority are hard working and honest while a small minority is, unfortunately, tainted.
